Elkstone Open Gardens Day on Sunday 23rd June
Elkstone is one of the highest villages in the Cotswolds halfway between Cirencester and Cheltenham off the A417. The best way to appreciate the village is to visit the Open Gardens Day which this year was on Sunday June 23rd from 2.00pm to 6.00pm. The date for 2025 is not yet decided but is likely to be in June. Organised by villagers to raise funds for the upkeep of the church and village hall it offers a unique opportunity to visit this village and see areas not normally accessible.
The church is known for its unusual dovecote above the chancel and its quite exceptional Norman carving, especially the two chancel arches and the sanctuary which is bathed in golden light. The church bells, which were restored and retuned during lockdown, will ring out to celebrate this special day. With many features including a Coronation wildflower meadow and an eco-loo, the church holds a bronze eco award.
Many differing gardens were open. Afternoon teas, refreshments, and ice creams were available and there was a plant stall to browse.
Adults £7.50, children free. Parking included. Assistance dogs only please. Follow signs off A417 or A435 to Elkstone village and then follow car park signs. To find us, simply click this link.
